Tattoo Aftercare: What to Expect
Every studio you visit will have something different to offer when it comes to Aftercare Instructions. Know that not one is more correct than another. All tattoo studios must adhere to Health & Safety guidelines and restrictions. Following the specific instructions of the studio you have recieved service from is crucial for ensuring the best healed results of your new tattoo.
Our detailed tattoo aftercare instructions will guide you through the process, starting from the first day of getting your tattoo. If you have questions or concerns for your healing process, you will have direct contact to your artist for assistance.
Healing Guidelines & Tips
Though lots can be said about the healing of your tattoo, here are 3 guidelines and tips that you can rely on for future tattoo aftercare practices.
1. Try to avoid swimming and lots of sun during your healing time. A general timeline of 2 weeks helps to insure the proper amount of time for your skin to heal and regenerate. We all grow impatient to get back at it, but patience is crucial during your healing time!
Tip: Book your tattoo experience during winter months! Lots of studios hit their down time in the colder months, and it gives you a better chance against being out in the hot sun, and far less swimming temptations!
2. Oxygen is your best friend for healing! At New Growth Tattoo, we believe in letting a tattoo breathe during it's healing process. Keeping your tattoo covered under plastic wraps, tight clothing, or restrictive air flow items, can raise the risks for infection, embedded bacteria, and inflammation/irritation.
Tip: Aim for one of your daily maintenances to be during down time, where you intentionally give your tattoo some breathing time after a wash and moisturize.
3. Don't rush the tattoo process! A quality tattoo can sometimes require more than one session. At our studio, we rely on multiple sessions for larger pieces to insure proper healing. Making sure that you have the ability to put your time towards your sessions will grant you a wonderful and fruitful tattoo experience!
Tip: If your tattoo will require multiple sessions to complete, work with your artist to prebook all of your sessions! A light at the end of the tunnel can be helpful for the anticipation!
